Try to stay calm and review your surroundings. If possible, take some photos of the damage. Attempt to collect as much information as possible such as the exact location, time of day, and if there are any witnesses. If you are able to locate a witness, record as much information as they can provide to you such as the year, make, model, colour and license plate number of the other vehicle involved. Additionally, collect the contact details for all of the witnesses. This is vital information for your next step; the police report.
Be sure to report the incident to a Collision Reporting Centre as soon as possible; even if the damage is minor. Some insurance companies require that a Hit & Run be reported to the authorities within 24 hours in order for it to be considered a Not-At-Fault claim.
